so I've been recovering from something that vaguely resembled a nervous breakdown, except significantly more cultured, reasonable, and controlled.
So that being the reason I had abandoned my devart for a while, I suppose now is as good a time as any to unbury myself from the dirt.
has captured my interest once more with another of her OCTs (
) which will hopefully be a good way to get my feet wet with productivity again. It will also make excellent practice because I will be using a character from one of my lesser known personal projects, and we'll see how he fairs
This is the Wizard Adelai Drejzoi, impressive looking, 'aint he? unfortunately for him, his powers are unstable, and he's too much of a self-centered prick to figure out how to fix it.
this antagonist-style character is self-centered, arrogant, slightly inept, and frequently oblivious. the various aspects of his character will be explored in more detail in the finished character sheet.
:edit: retouched the texture mask so the image would be lighter, I think it looks a little better this way
::edit:: NOW THE CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:
Name : Tokä Adelai Drejzoi
Age: 46 (approx)
Dark brown hair, interspersed with grey patches, pale blue eyes. Weathered appearance, aged beyond his years. Physically fit for his age, powerful blustering attitude. Arrogant, condescending, frequently has and expression of a furious scowl on his face. Usually wearing upper class clothing which is just a bit shabby from use, often traveling outfits.
Short Character History:
Adelai was the eldest son of the Drejzoi family. University being one of the principal methods of social advancement in his home society, Adelai was shipped off to a boarding school at a young age. He excelled at his studies and was on a fast track to social acclaim, but due to the pressures of responsibility that he would have to face, he elected a different career path.
While studying for what is the equivalent of a bachelor's degree Adelai made the acquaintance of Oadram, a Tokä wizard of significant power and repute. Adelai abandoned his college and spirited himself away to the northern mountains where Oadram instructed him in the arts of wizardry.
Over time, Adelai came to learn that Oadram had only taken him on as an apprentice to increase his own power and social clout among the Tokä. Upon this discovery, Adelai fled the custody of his mentor, and struck out to learn the secrets of magic on his own, with the goal of gaining enough power that no one would ever be able to use him again.
Because of his history, Adelai is wary of kind gestures and gifts, additionally he assumes all people are purely selfish (more in PERSONALITY section)
TL;DR history: -Coming Soon-
Adelai is a selfish old goat. He is hard headed and hard assed, though frequently overlooks things that are blatantly obvious to an almost comical degree. It is likely that he is very slightly deaf in one ear or another, and probably needs corrective lenses or something to that effect, but he is far to proud to admit such a weakness.
Pride is a central point of Adelai's character, he is powerful, but he lacks the control that would make him a truly great wizard. Adelai is a nasty, cruel, callous, craven, and occasionally cowardly man, but he thinks he's the bee's knees because he refuses to admit that the fact that he can't get along with anybody might be his own fault.
Selfishness is another key element. If there's something that Adelai wants, he'll work to get it. Any bit of esoteric knowledge, any scrap of power, any item that would be of future use; all are targets of his desire, and he's not generally particularly scrupulous about his methods of acquisition.
Adelai has lived a very hard life, with a series of betrayals and other harsh experiences. This has resulted in both his aged appearance and ruthlessly cynical attitude. He is callous almost to the point of sociopathy. Buried deeply beneath the various emotional scars he has collected over his 40+ years of life is a man who wants to understand things at a very basic level.
Adelai seeks power for two reasons, the first is the one mentioned before (to protect himself) but another is that power is just one more route to understanding for him. Were it not for the pride, and the damage, and all the other things getting in the way, Adelai would likely have become a somewhat acerbic philosophy professor, idly trying to understand the world, but not as overtly hateful.
For all of his faults, Adelai is a fairly powerful wizard. This being said there are two major limitations on his power: 1) Without his staff, Adelai's power is next to nothing. 2) Adelai cannot successfully decide exactly what his spells will do.
1) The school of wizardry that Adelai is from teaches the technique of siphoning energy out of the world around and storing it for later use in an object that the wizard always keeps with him. Adelai's object is his staff, consequently, he can only use the very weakest of his abilities when he does not have his staff. Additionally, when deprived of his staff, any spellcasting at all exhausts him significantly (as he draws his own life-energy to cast). When his staff is away from him, he also has a sixth sense allowing him to know it's general direction and vague sense of distance (near, far, etc.) Because it contains so much magical energy, his staff is nearly indestructible and were it to be broken it would be akin to several petajoules of energy released at once in destructive force (probably best not to break the staff.)
2) Adelai developed a meditation early in his training that allowed him to cast spells faster than all his colleagues, unfortunately this permanently unbalanced his magical pattern, so when he casts, his spells have /generally/ his intention, but usually go awry in some way that is somehow sideways to adelai's actual intention.
Aside from these facts, assuming Adelai can cast just about any spell he needs is fair enough.. A list of his most commonly used spells is forthcoming. Remember that at the start of the first round, Adelai is separated from his staff, and all his other magical objects.
More information on his spells and assorted magical objects will be forthcoming in a future reference guide.

Function Description: It's a Rock which was made from some mud and given the function of "stability," It makes whatever it comes into contact with more stable. Adelai was never given any idea how it could actually be helpful.
